Cebu City

Cebu City, in the center of the Philippines, is the country’s second largest city with a population of 2 million. From the beginning we felt that LP4Y should be present here. We first met with several NGOs who were active in the field of education and were conscious that many school leavers were effectively unemployable and therefore destined to a life on the outskirts of society.

Our meeting with Out-of-School Youth was decisive. Many of them live in or near cemeteries, and it wasn’t long before they came up with the idea of making candles. So they developed the necessary skills, first for making candles and then objects out of bamboo. The ideas have kept coming and the range of products continues to grow.

The Cebu LPC now has new premises, housing the workshop, the training rooms, as well as living quarters for the volunteers and Young adults who need it. A community is born!
