The LP4Y contract
Pedagogical principles
Developing a Life Project
Developing a Life Project requires a Young adult to draw on their background and experiences to build their future.
It’s a process of deep reflection that commits each member to building his or her / their personal project in line with his or her / their values.
By learning more about themselves, the Young adults gradually learn to enjoy this prospective work. Working sessions on the Life Project are in turn individual, in teams, or with the coach. There is of course time set aside for listening, but emphasis is placed on the concrete lessons taken from the “Working”, “Studying” and “Personal Development” sessions.
“Professional Training for Entrepreners” (PTE)
PTE is a training program lasting 9 to 18 months. It includes a business studies component as well as professional training for entrepreneurship. Groups of 8 to 12 Young adults work together in a “Life Project Center” (LPC).
The program operates Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Holidays are limited to 3 weeks per year and a few days off.
The Young adults are accepted into the program after a discovery week, which helps determine their degree of motivation. They then put into writing their wish to commit themselves to the first level:
The Programs are very demanding for the Young adults, in terms discovery, new behavior, level of concentration etc. The best results are achieved when the Young adults live on site, returning home only at the weekend.
When Young adults leave the program without completing, it almost always stems from a loss of self-confidence or strong tensions within the group.
The Training and Development Center
The TDC in Parañque houses the coordination and management center for LP4Y in the Philippines, the training center for all volunteers, center coordinators, coaches and experts, and is also the base for the Green Program and the Green Garden.
The Life Project Centers
The Life Project Center is a learning space for micro-entrepreneurs established in close proximity to areas of great poverty. The rooms are used for studying, meetings, and the various activities, which make up the 9 – 18 month learning period.
Since the opening of the first LPC in November 2010 we have decided that each LPC should concentrate on different activities. We can thus create specialized cells that resonate with the local environment and the direct experiences of the Young adults involved.
Example: The LPC in Cebu is located next to a cemetery where wax is collected and recycled, and this LPC has therefore specialized in candle making.
LPC activities (workshops, training courses, studying, meetings) take place every weekday from 8am to 6pm, under the guidance of LP4Y coaches.
At the head of each LPC is a Permanent Coordinator, supported by 3 experts in activity development, organization and youth guidance. They participate as required according to the teaching timetable, which is drawn up each term.
